The past month has been packed with uni assignments, work and trying to fit everything else. This week is quiet at uni as I have no assignments due. Its time to get everything done and prepare for the coming weeks of tests and assignments.
Starting my quiet week right
This morning I got up with the sun and went for a walk at the beach. It was gloomy and grey when I left my house, but by the time I got to the beach the sun was peeking out from behind the clouds. It was a lovely way to start the week. This week I’m switching up my priorities and setting my number 1 goal for this week to get some writing done. Writing means so much to me and I haven’t been making time to do it. That’s why i’m sat here with a hot coffee, wrapped up in blankets, listening to some lo fi beats and tapping away at my keyboard trying to create something worth reading.
This week is quiet as I have no big assignments due. I just have to burrow down and chip away at all the assignments due next week. That being said, its not going to be a chill week, there is still so much to do. Its week 10 of uni which means there’s only 3 weeks left of teaching time. For some reason lecturers don’t like to coordinate with each other and love to have everything due in the same week. So thats the current issue.
Last week it was the most chaotic week, I had 2 tests on the same day, 2 assignments due and a 1 hour presentation (and all these things were only for 2 of my 4 classes). Every lecturer assumes you think their class is the most important class however this is usually not the case. Some assignments have to be sacrificed for others, you can’t always go above and beyond on every assignment. You have to know when good enough is good enough.
For me, this week is a “recovery’ week. After the long week of non-stop uni work its time to recover and catchup with everything that was pushed aside for over the past week. Not only are there a few things to catch up with for uni but that includes housework and social interaction and making time for hobbies.
And so this morning I looked at my planner to decide when to fit everything in. In my head I was thinking I could stay late at uni a few nights this week and knock out all my assignments. But then I realized I have social plans 4/5 of the evenings and 2 full days of work. Suddenly my uni time has dwindled completely. My goal of getting all my assignments done in this quiet week has gone out the window. I guess its going to be getting up early this week to fit everything in.
Current consumption
Anne of the Island
Right now I am reading Anne of the Island (Anne of Green Gables Bk3) and I’m loving it. Its probably my third time reading this book and it still fills me with joy and curiosity. Every time I read this series I discover something new to think about or research. Its just so fascinating reading a story about a young lady growing up in the 1800s.
In this book Anne goes to college to get her BA. Of course because the book is set in the mid 1880s there are themes of romance and getting married. Reading Anne of the Island is different this time as I am the same age as Anne in this book and I just graduated with my Bsc last year. Its interesting comparing life as a college student back then to now about 140 years later! I found myself wondering what did a BA consist of in the 1880s? From reading the book it seems like they are studying many different subjects, mathematics, English, history and they don’t seem to specialize in college. Maybe college was an extension of high school back then or maybe they didn’t specialize until getting a job.
Baby Reindeer
One night last week we were all on the couch trying to find something to watch and we stumbled upon a knew show on Netflix called Baby Reindeer. We didn’t read much into it, it had a cute name, was very popular on Netflix and was based on a true story, what more did we need to know? Maybe we should have done some research into because I was shocked with what followed. The show is a black comedy drama about a bartender who deals with a female stalker. The show was disturbing but also really well done so much so that I could not stop watching. When we had finished the show I asked everyone what there opinion of the show was and my partner said “If I could go back in time I would have never watched that show”, I guess that tells you all you need to know about watching the show. Some aspects of life don’t need to be dramatized for others leisure.
A quiet week
So since I’m calling this a quiet week, what are some quiet things I am looking forward to?
stay up late with tea reading journal articles
journal to review my day and let go of worries
go on some long walks
Early mornings of silence and study at uni
Late nights of cuddling up in bed with a book
And with that my quiet pocket of writing time has diminished. Its time to get ready and go off to work. I hope wherever and whenever you’re reading this that you have a wonderful week.
