So far reading in January 2024 has been really great. I have technically finished 4 books so far but I'm only counting 3 towards 2024. Being off from uni has allowed me to do a lot of reading and I am really enjoying that.
Books FinishedÂ
I am really enjoying reading right now. I have finished 4 book which is great work towards my goal of reading 24 books in 2024. However I do want to read 12 fiction and 12 non-fiction and am not doing the best on this goal currently. So far I have only read 1 non fiction book so I plan to read more of those in coming months.
Anne of Green GablesÂ
On New Years Day I finished Anne of Green Gables. Though I only read it for about an hour so I’m not counting it towards 2024. I’ve read this book (and series) maybe 5 times in my life and I just love it. Reading this brought me right back to my childhood. If you want a book that’s hopeful and full of imagination be sure to read this series. Its a true classic. I am going to continue reading this series through the rest of the year so that I have read all 8 books by the end of the year.
The Good SisterÂ
I was given this book for Christmas so I didn't know much about it when I started reading it. And I was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting a lovely family story, and I got the opposite. This book has multiple POVs and timelines. It blurs the lines between lies reality and the stories we tell ourselves. I loved the character of Fern in this book, she was really well developed. If you are looking for an easy way to get into psychological thrillers be sure to try this one.Â
Feel Good ProductivityÂ
This is a very hyped up book written by one of my favourite youtubers. It has many science back experiments you can perform in order to be more productive while feeling good. I have been following the author Ali Abdaal for years and following his journey on youtube, so I was expecting a lot from this book. I have enjoyed this book, however I was expecting a bit more from it. It just felt like a youtube video in book form. I still need to spend sometime going back through this book and making notes on it so we will see how I feel about the book after that.
Enola HolmesÂ
The Case of the Missing MarcquesÂ
Another book I was gifted for Christmas. I was given the whole matching boxset which my friend knew I would love. I had watched the movie of this book when it first came out in 2020 so I vaguely knew the plot of the book. It was a great story but it did feel a bit young to me. The book is middle grade level and it felt a bit like the reader was being talked down to. When comparing it to the Anne of Green Gables series it feels much different. As Anne is 11 at the start of the series however it doesn’t feel too young to read as an adult. Enola Holmes did feel a bit young at times. But other than that it was a fun read and I plan to read the rest of the books in the box set.Â
Currently ReadingÂ
The Way of KingsÂ
Brandon Sanderson
I’ve been wanting to get into the world of Brandon Sanderson for a while and just haven’t made the time to. And so this year I am doing it. I started strong with The Way of Kings. I am really enjoying it so far. I love the high fantasy worlds and seeing how all the different characters interact. I am listening to this on audiobook and look forward to listening to it when I go for evening walks or on my commute. I have just started part 2 of this book so I’m guessing it will take me till the end of Feb or March to finish this one.Â
Brief answers to the Big QuestionsÂ
Stephen Hawking
One of my goals this year was to read some popular science books. This year I am starting a masters of science and I want to be more knowledgeable about general science. So I started with Stephen Hawking’s Brief Answers to The Big Questions. I have been enjoying it so far, it is so interesting to see what Stephen Hawking really thinks about certain topics. I hope to finish this book in the next week or two. I don’t want to rush it I am really enjoying learning a few small things at a time and processing them before moving onto the next bit of info.Â
Anne of AvonleaÂ
L M Montgomery
I started to read this on the weekend and am hoping to finish it today or tomorrow. I am loving this book but not as much as Anne of Green Gables - maybe because less stuff is happening. But I am definitely looking forward to Anne of the Island that i’ll read in March.Â
Looking Forward: Feb reading list
Outlive
Dr Peter Attia with Bill Gifford
A fairly new book - published in 2023, this book is about the science and art of longevity. Longevity has become a popular subject in the last few years and I’d love to learn more about it. All I know about longevity is that you should start in your 20s. And I’m in my 20s so I think now is the perfect time to read a book on this subject.Â
The Colour Purple
Alice WalkerÂ
I have been wanting to read this for a while and with the movie coming out I thought it was the perfect time. However I started reading it (with no knowledge of what it would be about) and found it a bit heavy. So I am going to do some research and get into this book slowly over February. I think it will be a great read I just need to ease into it.Â
Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind
Yuval Noah Harari
The next book on my popular science list is sapiens. I’ve had this book on my shelf for a while but haven’t got around to reading it. February is the time.Â
What have you read in January? What do you plan to read in February? Are you on track to meet your reading goals?
