My 2024 Reading Challenge
2023 was my biggest reading year ever. I finally installed a consistent reading habit into my life and read my books I had been wanting to read for years. So in 2024 I want a challenge. This year I want some more variety in what I read.
The theme of this year is ‘branching out’. I want to branch out and read books that are different to what I’m used to or out of my comfort zone. I want to read many new authors and new genres this year. I also want to read a large variety of books which is why I have created myself a 2024 reading challenge. The challenge is a list of 12 book themes which I will have to read this year. I’m exited to challenge myself and read something new.
Authors I want to read
Stephen King
He is the King of Horror. I love horror movies and would love to start reading it. Why not start with Stephen King.
Brandon Sanderson
I have been meaning to get into this world of epic fantasy for years. I have purchased the audiobook of The Way of Kings and am excited to get invested in this series and world.
Lucy Maud Montgomery
Want to re-read the Anne of Green Gables series which was a childhood favourite for me. Also hoping to dive into some of her other works such as Emily of New Moon and the Blue Castle.
Cal Newport
Have read Deep Work and So Good They Can’t Ignore You. Want to read more of his work and he has a new book coming out this year so I'm looking forward to that.
Taylor Jenkins Reid
An author that everyone seems to be reading. I loved The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo so wanting more of that.
R F Kuang
I read Yellowface in 2023 and was enthralled by it. Would love to read some of her fantasy work this year.
New genres I want to read/ try out
In the last year I mainly read historical and literary fiction books and I’m wanting to read something new and different this year. Here’s what I'm hoping to get to.
Horror
As mentioned above, I want to read some Stephen King.
Mystery/ thriller
A genre I’ve never read but would love to. This year is the time. Thinking about starting with The Housemaid and then maybe reading some Agatha Christie.
Biographies/ Memoirs
It seems biographies and memoirs have become very popular over the last few years. So I would love to read a few (I haven’t read one yet!). I own a copy of Educated by Tara Westover and I also want to read I’m Glad my Mum Died by Jennette Mccurdy.
Romantasy
A new genre that has only emerged in the past few years. I haven’t read anything in this genre but I own the fourth Wing so looking at getting into that.

Here is my challenge of books to read that force me to branch out and read something new.
Dark academia book
Women in stem book
A book nominated for the booker prize
